Pasted on the front free endpaper is a small postmarked envelope containing a holographic letter from the the author; the letter is folded once, and the script fills both sides. The green cloth binding is somewhat unevenly yellowed to the boards, although the spine is unaffected. There is some edge rubbing to the dustwrapper, likewise at head and base of the backstrip. There is some light general soiling or dustyness to the lower wrapper and two 2-inch closeable tears on the rear panel. The front panel of the DW is quite bright and striking; a colorful Asian woman on a black background.

Contains stories by Ernest Bramah, Conan Doyle, H. G. Wells, Poe, Beirce, Huxley, Stoker, Saki, Chesterton, Rohmer and a host of others. This copy inscribed "Read em and Creep! Christopher Morley" in silver ink across the front cover of the dust jacket (Morley wrote the blurb that appears on the slipcase only.). The book is very near fine with the top edge colored red. The DW is very good, with edge-chipping not affecting lettering, and spine mottling possibly caused by moisture or sunlight. The front and back covers are bright, no doubt due to the slipcase, which is very good with one corner bumped, and a similar mottling on the label.
