Author's first Judge Dee book, self-published, number 852 of 1200 copies, with author's signature and Chinese seal on the limitation page. "Review Copy" written in ink on the ffep in the author's hand. Illustrated with three reproductions of original Chinese pictures, and with six plates drawn by the author after ancient Chinese models. [8], iv, xxiii, 237 pages. Publisher's pictorial boards from a polychrome woodcut by the author. A few scrapes on the bottom edge, rubbing to the spine, else fine in pictorial (wood print) covers. Rare in such beautiful condition.
